Allergy

If you suffer from allergies, you know how hard it can be to get to sleep.  The sneezing, the runny nose, the itching, all of these things can keep you up all night long and stop you from getting a decent nights sleep.  The worst part of it is that your bed, which is supposed to be the most restful place in your house, is likely to be the one with the most allergens as well.  Dust, pollen, and even dust mites, can all contribute itchy skin, hayfever, and all kinds of other allergic problems.  This is why an allergy mattress cover is so important if you suffer from allergies.  Allergy mattress covers can do a wonderful good in helping you to get the nights sleep that you need.

If you are an allergy sufferer, you know how bad it could be. The throat would get scratchy when the season changed. Your eyes would itch and the nose would run a little bit.

If you have never seen allergy mattress covers, you might be picturing something complicated and high tech, but in reality they are really very simple. An allergy mattress cover is basically an impermeably sheet that goes directly over your mattress to stop dust mites from getting through. It is a screen with tiny holes in it, big enough to breathe but small enough to block out allergens. You might not realize how much of a difference a hypoallergenic mattress cover makes, but for those who suffer allergies it can be huge.

Of course not every allergy mattress cover will suit your needs.  To be effective, a hypoallergenic mattress cover has to be very well made.  It needs to be produced in a completely sterile factory of materials that will not irritate the skin and and aggravate allergies themselves.  Most importantly though, it needs to be made with holes small enough that dust mites will not be able to get in your bedding and continue to contribute to your allergies.  Although an allergy mattress cover is not enough by itself to make all of your allergies go away, it certainly is a start in getting the treatment that you need for your symptoms.

We spend eight hours sleeping every night. During all that time, we are breathing in dust that gathers on our beds. We can minimize this exposure by washing our bedsheets regularly and vacuuming our beds, but this doesn’t do enough. An allergy mattress cover is the only way to stop dust from gathering deep inside the bed. If dust gathers, the dust mites feed on it and produce allergens.  When you toss or turn on your bed, it sends the dust up into the air, causing allergies. An allergy mattress cover traps the dust, stopping it from getting to you. In addition, the allergy mattress cover stops more dust from gathering in the mattress. It really is a simple, elegant device.

In addition to your allergy mattress cover, however, you need to take certain actions to make sure that your exposure to allergens is kept at a minimum.  An allergy mattress cover only reduces your exposure to contaminants that may have seeped into your bed.  The allergy mattress cover will do nothing about airborne dust, mold, fungus, or pollen.  The only way to reduce these allergens is to keep a clean house.  Even with an allergy mattress cover, you need to change your bedding frequently.  You need to make sure that your floor and all surfaces in your house are kept clean as well, and that your air intake is kept in tip top shape. You would not believe how much allergic suffering is caused by furnace contamination or by things leaking in to the air ducts leading up to your house. If you can use an allergy mattress cover, however, and eliminate these possible sources as well, you will do just fine in the long run.

Remember, if you get an allergy mattress cover, keep in mind that it is no substitute for a good standard of cleanliness. If you have allergies, you should wash your sheets and blankets every week. The allergy mattress cover will stop the dust that is in the mattress, but not the dust that is in the blankets. You have to take care of that dust yourself.
